Sub-object codes are optional 1–3 character attributes that allow a department to specify a more detailed breakdown of an object code.
For example, you could establish sub-object codes for the office supplies object code (8070), such as sub-object codes for pens, pencils, paper, and so on. The sub-object is designated by a 3-character code -- any combination of alpha or numeric characters (no other character types allowed). Sub-objects must be established for each account/object combination with which you will use them. Sub-object codes can be used to record accounting or budget transactions.
