Important Updates:

  • Fellowship payments to international students and scholars require successful completion of the GLACIER individual record, as well as the appropriate GLACIER forms and document copies submitted to Tax Reporting & Compliance (TRC).  From the submission date, please allow ten business days for TRC to review and process your records.
  • TRC Staff CANNOT provide assistance with annual tax returns with the IRS. This includes inquiries pertaining to GLACIER Tax Prep, as this is a separate system from GLACIER Individual Record. Please do not submit IRS tax documents or queries to TRC.

GLACIER

GLACIER is a secure online tax compliance system that International visitors use to provide their immigrant and tax data to UC Davis.

NOTE: A GLACIER individual record is NOT a tax return that you file with IRS or the state. UC Davis Tax Reporting & Compliance (TRC) staff CANNOT provide individual tax advice. DO NOT submit your tax returns (Form 1040NR, Form W-2, Form 1042-S, etc.) with your GLACIER packet.

Why is a GLACIER Record Required?

GLACIER helps determine tax residency, withholding rates, and income tax treaty eligibility. GLACIER also manages tax liability paperwork, maintains immigration data, and prepares tax forms and required statements.

Please note that the GLACIER system is composed of two programs

  • GLACIER individual record
  • GLACIER Tax Prep (GTP)

TRC only handles the GLACIER individual record portion. You are required to complete a GLACIER individual record when you have an active employment with UC Davis and/or expect other payments such as fellowship, honorarium, etc. from UC Davis.  This system helps determine your tax residency status and the tax rate that is applied to your UC Davis payment(s).  Action is needed on your part when you get these GLACIER email reminders.
