Student Fee Funds

The following are the different types of Student Fees:

  • Systemwide Fees - approved by the Regents.

    • Tuition (formerly Educational Fee)

    • Student Services Fees (formerly Registration Fees)

    • Professional Degree Supplemental Tuition (formerly Professional School Fee)

  • Campus-based Fees - approved by referendum, UCD Chancellor or Regents.

Student Fees are appropriated in the following ways:

  • The Budget Office, Financial Aid Office or the Student Affairs Vice Chancellor's Office create a KFS BA document to allocate educational fees, Student Services Fee and student referendum fees.

  • Course material fees and professional fees are managed by the dean's office or department.  The authority to spend is based on the actual revenue generated, not by the budget (which is an estimate of revenues and expenses).

Student fee funds are in Sub Fund Group Type (SFGT) T and are in fund numbers "2XXXX".  For more detailed information on Tuition and Fees visit the Budget & Institutional Analysis Tuition and Fees page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use summer session funds for research?

Per Office of the President guidance, units are encouraged to compensate instructors with salary instead of deposits to Academic Enrichment Accounts (formerly called research accounts).  As a practice, it is best to use summer sessions fees for instruction rather than research.
