Configure the AFS Client

A. Acquire the AFS Client Software The OpenAFS Client is free open source software.

The latest release of the OpenAFS Client can be found at the OpenAFS download site:

  • Near the bottom of the page under the Windows 2000/XP/2003 link, click on Visit release page.

  • Near the bottom of the next page under Windows 2000/XP/2003, click on the latest version of the client *.msi file.
B. Install the AFS Software
  1. You need to have administrative privileges on the machine to install the software.

  2. Run the installer you downloaded in step A.
    • At the Welcome to the OpenAFS for Windows Setup Wizard window, click Next.

    • At the End-User License Agreement window, accept the license agreement and click Next.

    • At the Choose Setup Type window, select Custom.

    • At the Custom Setup window, install only the AFS Client and Loopback adapter. The AFS System Administration Documentation is optional. Click Next.

    • At the Configure AFS Client window, enter ucdavis.edu for the Default Cell. Change the Integrated logon option to Disable. Leave the other settings at their default. Click Next.
    • At the Options for AFS Credentials window, leave all settings at their default. Click Next.

    • At the Ready to Install window, click Install.

    • At the Completing the OpenAFS for Windows Setup Wizard, click Finish.

    • If prompted, restart your computer before continuing with the configuration.
