Acquire the AFS Client Software |
The OpenAFS Client is free open source software.
The latest release of the OpenAFS Client can be found at the OpenAFS
download site:
- Near the bottom of the page under the Windows
2000/XP/2003 link, click on Visit release page.
- Near the bottom of the next page under
Windows 2000/XP/2003, click on the latest
version of the client *.msi file.

Install the AFS Software |
- You need to have administrative privileges on the
machine to install the software.
- Run the installer you downloaded in step A.
- At the Welcome to the OpenAFS for
Windows Setup Wizard window, click Next.
- At the End-User License Agreement
window, accept the license agreement and click Next.
- At the Choose Setup Type window,
select Custom.
- At the Custom Setup window, install
only the AFS Client
and Loopback adapter. The AFS System
Administration Documentation is optional. Click Next.
- At the Configure AFS Client window, enter
ucdavis.edu for the Default Cell.
Change the Integrated logon option to
Disable. Leave the other settings at their
default. Click Next.
- At the Options for AFS Credentials
window, leave all settings at their default. Click Next.
- At the Ready to Install window, click Install.
- At the Completing the OpenAFS for Windows Setup
Wizard, click Finish.
- If prompted, restart your computer before continuing
with the configuration.
